Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of personality disorders in normal young males of community samples. 5971 persons were questioned with PDQ-4+ (Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4+). In view of the total scores of PDQ-4+, 44.7% of subjects with more than 30 points were classified into the subjects who have significant personality disturbance. Total 4740 of 5971 subjects are available for analysis. About 71.2% of subjects received a personality disorder (PD) diagnosis, and 50.7% received a PD diagnosis by plus one to the thresholds of each PD, and 26.7% received a PD diagnosis by plus two to the thresholds of each PD criteria. Most prevalent PD is obsessive-compulsive PD, and followed by avoidant PD and histrionic PD. Our result suggests that the prevalence of PD in Korean young males is too higher than is expected, and that it is suggested to adjust the diagnostic threshold of PD in PDQ-4+ according to the cultural difference.
